AWARDS: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place awards will be presented to the best margarita, salsa, & queso for restaurants and individual entries. This year, restaurants and individuals entering guacamole will be placed in a category together. * The Arthritis Foundation reserves the right to omit the guacamole category and refund guacamole contestants if there are not at least 5 entries. We will also have a “People’s Choice Award”. This award is voted on by the citizens of “Salsaritaville” by placing cash money in a bucket (provided by foundation) on your front table. 100% of the proceeds of the People Choice Award benefit the Arthritis Foundation.
ENTRIES & REGISTRATION: ENTRY DEADLINE IS TUES, AUGUST 17 – AFTER AUGUST 17, AN ADDITIONAL FEE OF $25 WILL BE ADDED TO EACH ENTRY
**According to TABC law, any contestant serving margaritas must be TABC certified. Proof of certification must be provided.
RESTAURANTS: Entry fee of $100 for each entry plus a $100 refundable clean-up deposit. Each participant should provide at least 6 gallons of their margarita entry, at least 4 gallons of salsa or queso, and at least 2 gallons of guacamole. Materials provided for 1 entry: 2-8ft tables per entry; tablecloth; 2 t-shirts; 4 entry tickets; sample cups & chips will be provided for judging and sampling. Restaurant winners will receive cash money! 1st place in all categories will be awarded $200, 2nd place $150, and 3rd place $100. *Alcohol for restaurant margaritas will be sold to you at wholesale price from the Margarita and Salsa Festival when paying the entry fee.
INDIVIDUALS: Entry fee is $100 for each entry plus a $25 refundable clean-up deposit. Each participant will provide at least 5 gallons of their margarita entry, at least 4 gallons of salsa or queso, and at least 1 gallon of guacamole. Materials provided for 1 entry: 2-8ft tables per entry; tablecloth; 2 t-shirts; 2 entry tickets; sample cups & chips will be provided for judging and sampling; up to $100 credit towards liquor (please specify brand and quantity). Alcohol exceeding $100 for individual margaritas will be sold to you at wholesale price from the Margarita and Salsa Festival when paying the entry fee. Individual winners will receive cash money! 1st place in all categories will be awarded $200, 2nd place $150, and 3rd place $100.
*ALL FOOD ITEMS MUST BE PREPARED BEFORE ARRIVING TO THE EVENT IN A CERTIFIED KITCHEN FOR BOTH RESTAURANTS AND INDIVIDUALS!! *ALL MARGARITAS MUST BE MADE ON SITE!
**INDIVIDUALS – Your samples may be prepared at our certified kitchen (available to you Fri and Sat in the General Exhibits building) unless you have access to a permitted kitchen (most church and civic centers are certified). In this case, you must bring a note stating what kitchen you used and signed by kitchen personnel. If your queso or salsa is just cheese and CANNED tomatoes, you can mix this onsite but you must NOT cut up tomatoes in an uncertified kitchen (home).
