2014-15 Miss Heart O' Texas Fair & Rodeo Crowned

Waco, TX (February 20, 2014) – A new Miss Heart O’ Texas Fair & Rodeo was crowned last night.  The competition was held on Wednesday, February 19, 2014, at the Extraco Events
Center and the winner is Mary Conley Thompson.  Haley Bass was named first runner-up.
 
Mary Conley Thompson is a junior at Midway High School and is the daughter of Mitch and Amber Thompson. She is active with her school’s Student Council, PALS program, Link Crew and the Sports Medicine Athletic Training program.  She is also very involved at First Baptist Woodway with Vacation Bible School, the Mission Trip Team and the Student Leadership Team.
 
“I am very honored to be crowned the new Miss Heart O’ Texas Fair & Rodeo and look forward to representing the Fair & Rodeo this year,” stated Mary Conley Thompson.
 
The selection of the Sweethearts is based on personal interviews, personality, congeniality, poise and communications skills.  Eligible Sweetheart contestants can also compete for the title of Miss
Heart O’ Texas Fair & Rodeo.
 
Five young ladies competed for the title of Miss Heart O’ Texas Fair & Rodeo.Each contestant had at least 100 hours of volunteer service in the community, sold a minimum of $500 in pre-sale Fair & Rodeo tickets, participated in an interview process with five judges and gave a short speech to the judges and audience.  In addition to being named the 2014 Miss Heart O’ Texas Fair & Rodeo, Mary Conley will receive a $1,000 scholarship and other prizes.  She will make appearances in parades, schools, rodeos and be the hostess of the Heart O’ Texas Fair & Rodeo scheduled for October 2-11.
 
The primary purpose of the Sweetheart Program is to promote, support and represent the Heart O’ Texas Fair & Rodeo.  This goal is accomplished by selling discounted Fair & Rodeo tickets and/or
sponsorships, serving as public relations ambassadors for the Fair & Rodeo and volunteering 100 hours of community service.  Sweethearts assist the Fair & Rodeo by distributing rodeo programs, presenting awards for numerous events such as the Livestock Show, various contests, Mutton Bustin’ and more.  Year-round duties include representing the Fair & Rodeo at parades, festivals, events and fundraisers/benefits in the Waco-McLennan County area.
 
The Extraco Events Center, home of the Heart O’ Texas Fair & Rodeo, is the center of entertainment in Central Texas.Its mission is to produce events for education, entertainment and
agricultural experiences while giving back through youth scholarships.  The premier facilities host over 225 events with an attendance of 420,000 and a $40 million economic impact annually.  The
