Also known as Vaqueritos Mas Chulos, the contest is open to children ages 4 to 8. Age is based on the child’s age as of the date of the competition. There will be one girl and one boy winner from the two age group divisions, 4-6 years old and 7-8 years old. The contest will be held Sunday, October 12, 2025 at 5:30pm.
ENTRY: Entry fee is $25. Online registration ends on October 7th by 5pm. First come, first served. A maximum of 20 entries for each age division will be accepted (10 boys and 10 girls). Each participant will be e-mailed a fair admission ticket for entry the day of the event. Parking and rodeo admission are not included with the fair admission ticket.
ENTRY LIMITS: Previous Winners (2022 - 2024) can compete again ONLY if moving up to the next age division.
ARRIVAL TIME: Plan to arrive no later than 4:45pm to line up for the contest. Factor in your distance from Extraco Events Center,
traffic, parking, and gate entry. Only
one adult per child in the check-in
area. All other family members must watch from the audience.
START TIME: The contest will begin PROMPTLY at 5:30pm. Once
the contest begins, all family members must watch from the audience.
ATTIRE:
Western/vaquero or combination of vaquero/folkloric.
REQUIREMENTS: Contestants will be accompanied to the
center of the stage by a Heart O' Texas Fair & Rodeo Committeeman. Although
not a modeling show, posing at centerstage is allowed. Each contestant should
prepare to answer the following when prompted by the Emcee: (in no
particular order) their name, age, school attending, where they are
from, what they like best about the fair & rodeo, and/or hobbies.
Practice will ensure less stage fright.
SCORING: Each contestant will be evaluated on Stage
Presence & Personality, Appearance & Attire, and Overall Impression.
Judges' decisions are final.
PRIZES: Each winner will receive a pair of boots
courtesy of El Rio Western Wear, flowers, crown, sash, and a trophy.
WINNER ANNOUNCEMENT: Winners will be announced
and group pictures taken following the contest.
