LOCATION(S): BASE at Extraco Events Center and Hometown Stage

HEARTS stands for Heritage, Arts, and Technical Skills. This contest will encourage participation in artistic, cultural, and technical endeavors. All while offering scholarship opportunities for the youth participants.

All the entries from the contest will proudly be on display in the BASE for the duration of the Heart O' Texas Fair & Rodeo.

In addition to the youth contests listed below, the HEARTS committee will host demonstrations of cultural heritage through dance, music, and theater.

The Contests

Coloring Contest

The coloring contest is a chance for our youngest artists to get involved at the fair. Pre-K through 2nd Grade students are welcome to print and color the official HEARTS coloring page and submit it for a chance to win a ribbon.

ART CONTEST

The HEARTS Art Contest will see painted illustrations, drawings, and mixed medium entries. The Art Contest is divided into three divisions: Junior, Intermediate, and Senior. Awards will be given in each division, with additional awards and scholarships awarded in the Senior division.

GRAPHIC DESIGN CONTEST

The HEARTS Graphic Design Contest is open to the Senior age division only. The students will be given a prompt that they will need to create a logo or cover art. Awards and scholarships will be given in this contest as well. The first place entry in the cover art contest will be the featured in the next year's HEARTS Catalog.

PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST

Entries in the HEARTS Photography Contest must be in color. The 2023 contest saw portraits, landscapes, and action photos. The Photography Contest is open to the Intermediate and Senior age divisions. Awards will be given in both divisions, with additional awards and scholarships in the Senior division.

NEW! SPECIAL NEEDS ART CONTEST

The HEARTS Special Needs Art Contest is reserved for exhibitors who are registered in one of the following: Active Learning Class (ALC), Functional Academics (FA), Life Skills Class (LS), Social and Interpersonal Learning (SAIL), Specialized Behavior Support (SBS), Structured Learning Class (SLC). Awards will be given in each age division!

Fashion Design contest

The HEARTS Committee is excited to bring a new contest to the mix. For Fashion Design, Senior students will provide a display board featuring a summary of their design, storyboard, and sketch of their design based on the given prompt. Awards and a scholarship will be given.
