The Heart O’ Texas Fair & Rodeo awarded 32 scholarships to Central Texas students for the 2013-14 academic year.  This continues the Fair & Rodeo’s tradition and mission of giving back through youth scholarships.

Last night, students and their families attended the organization’s Scholar Recognition Banquet, underwritten by Bailey Insurance & Risk Management, where they heard inspirational words from Five-Time Pro-Bowler Jay Novacek and $49,000 in scholarships was awarded.  Students receiving scholarships represented the following schools: Bosqueville, China Spring, Crawford, Groesbeck, Lorena, Mart, McGregor, Mexia, Midway, Moody, Robinson, Rogers, Texas Christian Academy, University, Waco and West.

The top recipient of the evening was Matthew Stephens from Bosqueville High School who received a scholarship in the amount of $5,500.

In addition to the $49,000, a total of $5,000 was awarded to two students at the 4-H Youth Development Foundation Awards Ceremony in College Station earlier this month.

These scholarships are part of the Heart O’ Texas Fair & Rodeo’s annual commitment of providing scholarships to Central Texas students.  Since its beginning, the Heart O’ Texas Fair & Rodeo has committed more than $2 million to the youth of Central Texas.

“All of the applicants are put through a rigorous scoring process,” commented Heart O’ Texas Fair & Rodeo President/CEO Wes Allison.“Each application is reviewed, scored and
then totaled to determine which students will receive a scholarship and how much will be awarded. And once again this year, the applicants made this a challenging process.”
